13 Dec Get Grounded

Hold up, wait a minute. When did it become December? Weren’t we just bar-b-queing for the 4th of July, celebrating some of the few civil liberties we still have? I’m just sayin… It’s like, did the ground really just move from under me? How did this happen? Better yet, when did this happen?

I can promise you’re not alone if you’re feeling the exact same way!

Perhaps you are feeling pulled in so many different directions, and you are just trying to catch your footing. Somehow, someway. And listen…I get it. Life can be tough.

You might be asking yourself, will I ever get to catch my breath?

I want to encourage you to not wait to catch your breath. Simply “pause” right now, exactly where you are. A full stop during this time of the year might feel like too much (although you deserve that, too), but will you consider at least pausing for just a moment? I promise you it will make a difference.

Pausing will help you to re-ground, find stillness, and usher in some much needed spaciousness.

Repeat this mantra: I am AMAZING, AWESOME, AND BRILLIANT!

The thing about this time of year, when life is hectic and the struggle  is real, pausing is so important – especially when things feel completely out of control! It’s important to remember to just do the next right thing. If you get tripped up, then do the next, next right thing. .

Get grounded with Savasana

Below are the written instructions for getting into Savasana but I am also providing some audio instruction, for you here: Savasana – Guided Meditation.  Your welcome, lol.

Here’s a yoga pose that I use to regroup and ground when I’m needing some serious stability in my life.

Take a couple of minutes and get into Savasana – this yoga pose will only take you two minutes and will help you resist the urge to scratch, move, wiggle, or even make your grocery list (which never seems complete, much like our laundry…. #amIright).

Grab your yoga mat, or a comfortable place on the ground, and lay flat on your back. Spread your feet shoulder width apart and put your arms down by your sides. Give yourself these two minutes to really pause and give yourself that  generous minute that you need and deserve.

If you can, just for these two minutes, allow your stress to  fall away into the abyss around you. Let the worry and stress melt away while you simply BE.

So often, we find ourselves pulled in a million different directions –  doing way too much.. If you can, really sink into a moment that’s quiet and pause.

The Ever Growing To-Do List

Stop and check in with yourself and see what makes sense for you in this moment.

Now that you’ve given yourself permission to just BE for two whole minutes (which might feel like an eternity to some of you, and I totally get that), it’s time to start  removing some things off of your to-do list and stop letting your mind, body, and soul be stretched to far from your center.

You know that list you’ve got sitting beside your bedside that’s screaming, DO EVERYTHING ON THIS LIST RIGHT NOW OR ELSE….

Yeah… that’s not going to work! There are things you can get off of your list that will allow you to free yourself from the stress and overwhelm of trying to do too much at once while also helping you find your center and get grounded.

If we’re being honest with each other (and you know I love some honesty), we have a tendency to want to put everyone else first when there are many different little pools we’re trying to fit everyone in.

But let me shoot it straight with you – this is even more of a time to make sure that you are taking care of yourself first!

Give yourself a little bit more

  • Space
  • Time
  • Breath
  • Pause

Regrounding ourselves sometimes calls for a time of true reflection. When we pause and think about a loved one in our life, those who are far away from you, or maybe even folks we’ve lost, we can truly embrace our here and now and open ourselves up to more openness.

If you’re ready to start removing things from your to-do list, identify 3 things on the list and now just choose one, considering saying, I’m going to do one of these things only and be pleased with myself. This kind of attitude and behavior will cultivate some loving kindness and gentleness towards yourself which can make a big difference in your lives!

When you are grounded and you can get more connected with yourself there it creates more space for you to breathe and just be.

Which one of these practices are you going to try today to help get you back to a grounded state?

I’m excited to hear what you return to or try for the first time. So share it with us in the comments!
